Short Hair
The crucial thing to take note of when having short hair is
to match the cut to the shape of your face.
There are seven basic facial shapes, basically diamond,
heart, oval, rectangle, round, square, and triangular. Not all
facial shapes are suitable for all kinds of cuts.
Diamond-shaped faces are narrow at the foreheads, and wide
at the cheeks, with a small pointy chin. This works best with
cuts that add more fullness at the top of the head to balance
with the width of the cheeks.
Heart-shaped faces are wide at the foreheads, and have small
chins. This works best when paired with a layered bob with lots
of volume to your hair. Asymmetrical cuts are also good.
Oval-shaped faces have high foreheads, with narrow but round
chins. This works well with any cut.
Rectangular-shaped faces are long with high foreheads, with
defined jaws and chins. This works best with chin-length or
shoulder-length cut, to give it an overall softening effect.
Some fringe at the forehead also works well.
Round-shaped faces have wide foreheads and full jaws. Since
this shape is similar to oval, most hairstyles will work but
it’s best to have fullness above the ears. The softer the cut
and the more the layers are brought forward towards the face,
the better the hairstyle is for this facial type. Asymmetrical
cuts are also good.
Square-shaped faces with its “lantern” jaw and wide forehead
requires a graduated cut with lots of volume at the top.
Triangular-shaped faces are widest at the jaw and narrow at
the temple, and are suitable for most hairstyles except those
with volume at the top of the head.
